Qianqian Fang's research is focused on seeking innovations in translational medical imaging devices to better diagnose cancers, low-cost point-of-care diagnostic tools to delivery life-saving medicines to the resource-poor regions, and high performance computing tools to facilitate the development of the next-generation imaging methods
Monte Carlo eXtreme, or MCX, is a Monte Carlo photon simulator, developed by Fang and his team, for modeling light transport in 3D turbid media. It uses graphics processing units (GPUs) to simulate many photons simultaneously, making it one of the fastest and most accurate photon modeling tools.
