Kayla Yewon Park, a 3D animator and recent graduate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, used to face long rendering times for her animations, taking 24 to 72 hours for just a 10-second segment. This process would slow down her laptop or dominate a desktop computer. However, with the launch of SMFA’s first render farm, utilizing Tufts’ High Performance Computing Cluster, rendering times have significantly improved. This cluster, usually supporting large-scale scientific and engineering computing, is now aiding the visual arts for the first time.
