Dr. Qianqian Fang's research is focused on developing translational cancer imaging systems using near-infrared based diffuse optical tomography, wearable neuroimaging using fNIRS, and high performance computational methods to facilitate the development of the next-generation optical imaging techniques.
Monte Carlo eXtreme, or MCX, is a Monte Carlo photon simulator, developed by Dr. Fang and his team, for modeling light transport in 3-D turbid media. It uses graphics processing units (GPUs) to simulate many photons simultaneously, making it one of the fastest and most accurate photon modeling tools.
